Our Doctor

Dr. Chen took over Dr. Earle Nakagawa’s office in October 2024. During her training at UC Berkeley School of Optometry, Dr. Chen had always wanted to have her own optometry practice where she can provide comprehensive patient care as well as building long lasting and trusting relationships with her patients.

Before establishing LocalEyes Optometry of Hawaii, Dr. Chen had previously worked as an associate optometrist at various practices, such as the VA hospital in San Francisco and Fresno, community clinics in Oakland and Kalihi, private refractive surgery center, and at the Navy Exchange for military dependents. Dr. Chen’s professional background equipped her to provide in depth care to patients ranging from 4 to 100+ years old.

Inspired by the example set by Dr. Earle Nakagawa, Dr. Chen will continue to serve the community with compassion and kindness. Dr. Chen wanted to become an optometrist because she always believed that prevention is more important than treatment. With LocalEyes Optometry of Hawaii, Dr. Chen strives to provide thorough and personalized care for generations to come.

What is LocalEyes?

LocalEyes is a play on the word “localize”. When Dr. Chen was trying to come up with a practice name, she thought about her vision and mission for her optometry practice. With modern technology and globalization, telehealth and commercialized healthcare have grown to be the norm. Although convenient, telehealth and commercialized health care can often make each visit feel rushed and cut short for patients. Through LocalEyes Optometry, Dr. Chen is dedicated to providing tailored and thorough care by localizing her care.
